Many tennis players aren’t comfortable using “mini tennis” as a way to warm up before a practice session. I strongly suggest that you keep practicing it as a way to build your timing and confidence before hitting full speed shots each time you hit the practice court!
Hi Ian, I´m from Brazil…I usually do warm ups with a slolly balls and I think is a wonderfull idea for warm up and more important, to teach beginners tennis players…I love it…when I was a child we
don´t have these balls…sorry my poor english…bye!!!
Thanks for watching in Brazil!
Do you think it’s a bad idea to start out with a soft foam ball or some other slow ball?
I use to warm up with foam balls when I play with my kids and it works really well … in fact a lot better than the warm ups we have in the group I’m practicing with myself.
Peter,
I’ve also used foam balls with little kids, warm ups specifically, they’re excellent to extend rallies! When it comes to the serve I’m not sure they have quite the same positive benefit. I don’t think it would be a “bad” thing, but the whole point of foam balls is they don’t travel as far or bounce as much, neither of those two things really help a little kid learn how to serve correctly in my opinion! If you’re dealing with really little kids (4-7 year olds or so) then having them start off on the service line is great practice until they have the strength and control to actually do things correctly from the baseline.
Thanks – this is a great video that really clarified some questions I had about mini tennis.
is the guy in red using western grip?
It’s pretty close but not quite.
