Cutie pie Maria Sharapova is not playing in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami this week. She is the only one of the top players not participating.
According to On the Baseline
“Maria Sharapova is in no rush to return to the tennis courts after re-injuring her shoulder at Indian Wells. The 2008 Australian Open champion learned her lesson last season and this time she is willing to take as long a break as necessary to recover. Sharapova tweaked her right shoulder last week at the Pacific Life Open, prompting her to withdraw from the mandatory Sony Ericsson Open. ”
Cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova, is seeded 7th in the Sony Ericsson Open Tournament in progress in Miami March 26 – April 6. Daniela had a bye into the 2nd round, won that match over Milagros Sequera, but then lost to Ai Sugiyama of Japan in the 3rd round.
The highest seed of the eight cutie pies playing in this tournament is Ana Ivanovic at # 2. She had a bye into the 2nd round, won her match, but lost to Lindsay Davenport in straight sets in the 3rd round.
Cutie pie Ana Ivanovic looked fabulous and played fabulous as she defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets, 604, 6-3, to claim the title at the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, CA on Sunday. She is pictured here holding her trophy. If you can take your eyes off of her long enough, yes, she is holding a trophy.
On Saturday, Ana defeated compatriot Jelena Jankovic also in straight sets. Ana had a good tournament. And she sure makes a cute champion, don’t you think?!!

Cutie pie, Maria Sharpova, continued her undefeated season with a 3-set win over Alona Bondarenko, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Then she played cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova, who defeated Sania Mirza, 6-1, 7-6(4). Maria won that match 7-6(2), 6-1. In this tournament, I would like to see Maria come out on top, which, by the way, she almost did in this picture!
My favorite cutie pie and top seed, Ana Ivanovic, has also advanced, defeating Francesca Schiavone in a hard fought 3 setter, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. She now faces 12th seed Vera Zvonareva.
Seventh seed, Nicole Vaidisova is the 2nd of our featured cutie pies to get beat out of the Pacific Life Open tournament going on in Indian Wells, CA. She is pictured here returning a shot against Casey Dellacqua of Australia on Saturday. Nicole lost the 3-set match 1-6, 6-3, 4-6. Maria Kirilenko got beat out in the 2nd round by another cutie pie, Caroline Wozniacki.
The other cutie pies are all still advancing. Number 1 seed, Ana Ivanovic advanced to the 3rd round with a 3-set win 6-1, -7, 6-0 over Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru.
Cutie pie Ana Ivanovic is the # 1 seed in the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, CA March 10-23. She is cute enough, I expect her to do very well in this tournament!
Four of our other featured cutie pies are also seeded. Maria Sharapova is seeded # 4. Daniela Hantuchova is the defending champion and is seeded # 5. Nicole Vaidisova is seeded # 7, and Maria Kirilenko is seeded # 18.
One of our featured cutie pies, Tatiana Golovin is scheduled for surgery today. She has been having back pains for a while and while looking for the source, doctors discovered she has a 6 cm (2.35 inch) cyst in her left hip. The surgery will remove the cyst.
Well, unfortunately cutie pie Patty Schnyder’s run came to an end at the Bangalore finals. She lost to Serena Williams 5-7, 3-6 on Sunday.
Williams seemed to dominate the final with powerful serves and groundstrokes. Patty committed several unforced errors in trying to hit deep and keep Williams at the baseline.
Patty had a good tournament, even though she lost this final match. Runner-up is better than 26 of the other players did in this tournament. Way to go, cutie pie.
Cutie pie, Patty Schnyder advanced to the finals of the Bangalore Open with a 2-set victory on Saturday over Zi Yan, 6-3, 6-4. Patty broke serve twice in both sets, while losing her own serve once in the 2nd set, for a relatively easy win.
Zi Yan had been referred to as a giant-killer, having knocked off top seed Jelena Jankovic and 8th seed cutie pie Maria Kirilenko to reach the semi-finals in this tournament. So Patty apparently is the killer of the giant-killer, and my latest prediction that Patty would reach the finals came true.
Cutie pie Patty Schnyder has made it through to the semi-finals in the Bangalore Open. My prediction about her last match came true.
Fourth seed, Patty, defeated a big-serving Akgul Amanmuradova in a close, tough 3-set match, 4-6 6-4 7-6.
Her semi-final match will be against the winner of the quarterfinal match between #1 seed, Jelena Jankovic and Zi Yan. Being toughened up from two straight 3-set matches, I think Patty can pull off another win to reach the finals. I’m pulling for you, cutie pie!
