Patty Schnyder advances

Patty Schnyder photoCutie pie Patty Schnyder has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bangalore Open.

Patty is pictured here playing against Aiko Nakamura on Mar. 5. She dropped the 1st set in a tie-break, then went on to win the match in 3 sets, 6-7,6-4,6-2. That 3-setter should toughen her up for her next matches in the tournament.

Patty will now play unseeded Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan, who defeated 5th seed Agnes Szavay. Amanmuradova has a world ranking of 83. I’m predicting a cutie pie Patty win! Go cutie pie!

Maria Kirilenko – out in 1st round

Maria Kirilenko photoEight seeded Russian cutie pie Maria Kirilenko was knocked out of the Bangalore Open in the first round. Unseeded Chinese player, Zi Yan, came from a set behind to register the first major upset of the tournament.

It was a tough 3-setter. Kirilenko won the first set 3-6. She then squandered three match points in the second set. In the opening game of the third set, she failed to convert on four break points. After that Yan took control.

So our cutie pie had her chances. She just couldn’t make it happen. Don’t give up, cutie pie. There is another tournament just around the corner.
