Cutie pie, Maria Sharapova, was voted 30th on the annual FHM Magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll.
Almost nine million votes were cast in the world’s most popular countdown of its kind. It doesn’t take that many votes to know she is one hot sexy tennis player. That’s why she is on our list of featured cutie pies.
Two other tennis players made the list. Another one of our featured cutie pies, Ana Ivanovic, was voted the “best looking athlete on the planet” and came in 23rd on the “sexiest women list.” Anna Kournikova, who retired from professional tennis in 2004 because of chronic back pain, finished 81st on the top 100 sexiest women list.

Happy birthday to cutie pie Nicole Vaidisova, who turned 19 on April 23rd. Nicole was born in 1989 at Nuremberg, Germany. She now lives in Prague, Czech Republic.
Nicole turned pro in 2003 at the age of 14. She has been ranked as high as 7th in the world. Her current ranking is 16. She is coached by David Felgate as of this month. She was introduced to tennis by her mother, Riana, at the age of 6. Her favorite city is New York because of all its activity. I’d go there to try to crash her birthday party, but for some reason she didn’t let me know where it was being held.

Happy birthday to cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova who turned 25 on April 23. Daniela was born in 1983 in Poprad, Slovakia. She currently lives in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Daniela turned pro in 1999, just after her 16th birthday. She has had a world ranking as high as 8. Her current ranking is 10.
She looks here like she is ready to party. I’m sad that I wasn’t invited. Maybe next year!

Cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, is the only one of our featured cutie pies still in the 2008 WTA Tour Family Circle Cup currently being played in Charleston, SC. As the 4th seed, she defeated another cutie pie, 7th seed Patty Schnyder in a 2-set Quarterfinal match, 6-4, 6-4.
That sets up a Semifinal match with 9th seed Vera Zvonareva. Go cutie pie. We’re pulling for you!
Elena is pictured here after winning the final March 1, 2008 in the WTA Dubai Open.

Cutie pie, Patty Schnyder is out of the 2008 WTA Tour Family Circle Cup going on in Charleston, SC. She lost a 2-set match, 4-6, 4-6, to another cutie pie, Elena Dementieva in the Quarterfinals.
Patty was seeded 7th, and Elena was seeded 4th in this tournament. So I suppose the match went about the way it should have. Unfortunately that leaves only one of our featured cutie pies, Elena, left in the tournament. Cutie pie, Maria Sharapova also lost her Quarterfinal match.

Happy birthday to cutie pie Maria Sharapova who turns 21 today. She was born April 19, 1987 in Nyagan, Siberia, Russia. Her current residence is Bradenton, Florida, USA.
What amazes me is that she turned pro on April 19, 2001. That means she was just 14. At age 14, I was nervous about going four miles away to High School. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be traveling all over the world as a tennis pro at that age.
Unfortunately, she will not be celebrating her birthday by winning another tournament. She lost in the Quarterfinals of the 2008 WTA Tour Family Circle Cup in a tough 3-setter, 5-7, 6-4, 1-6, to Serena Williams.

According to the caption on the TennisUniverse.com, this is cutie pie Maria Sharapova. Obviously it is a bottom’s up view, or as the caption put it, “Maria Sharapova’s butt.” It is a little hard to recognize her from this picture, so I’ll just take their word for it. I will have to agree, this is a nice view!
Maria is currently playing in the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, SC, being held April 14-20. She is the highest seed of the cutie pies who are playing in this tournament, seeded # 2.
Cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic remains the top ranked of our cutie pies in the WTA Tour rankings this week at # 2. She is shown here returning a shot against Emilie Loit of France during day six of the Sony Ericsson Open March 29, 2008. She won that match 6,1, 6-2, but then lost her next match to Lindsay Davenport 4-6, 2-6. Still, she maintains her hold on the # 2 ranking.
There was some other movement in the cutie pie rankings this week. The only move upward was Elena Dementieva who moved from 11th up to 8th after the strongest showing among the cutie pies at the Sony Ericsson Open.
Cutie pie Elena Dementieva was the only one of our cutie pies remaining in the Sony Ericsson Open Tournament going into the 4th round. But that was the end for all our cutie pies.
Elena played Jelena Jankovic in her quarterfinal match. Jankovic was leading 6-1 3-1 in the contest when Elena, who had a back injury treated on court earlier in the match, decided she could not carry on. She retired from the match before making her back problems worse.
Hopefully her injury will not keep her out of future tournaments.
