I’m getting tired of all white! Editor’s mid-tournament observation!

Filed under: Current Events - 28 Jun 2008

Wimbledon Tennis facilities photoHelp! I need a break from white. All tennis players are required to wear only white at Wimbledon. I miss the colorful tennis outfits the colorful short skirts, the colorful skimpy tops, the colorful panties that the cutie pies wear when they can wear whatever they want. I’m tired of seeing just white!

I’m including this picture of the Wimbledon tennis facilities at the mid-point of the tournament, as we head into week two, just to add a little color. At least there are some grays and greens.

Elena Dementieva cruises into 2nd week at Wimbleon

Elena DementievaRussian cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, has made it into the 4th round at Wimbledon for the 4th time in her career. She cruised to a straight-set win over 39th ranked Gisela Dulko of Argentina, winning 7-6 (7-2), 7-5.

The sets were close, but Elena kept her concentration to capture the win. She now moves into the 2nd week and will face 26th ranked Shahar Peer of Israel. This is Sharhar’s best showing at Wimbledon. I’m thinking nerves will get to her, and Elena will come out triumphant.

Caroline Wozniacki loses in 3rd round at Wimbledon

Caroline WozniackiSeventeen year-old Danish cutie pie, Caroline Wozniacki, is in action here in her third round match at Wimbledon. Caroline played her heart out, but came up just short against the world’s # 3 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.

Caroline came out aggressively and won the first set 6-2. The second set was close and nerves seemed to get to her a little as she began to realize how close she was to a major win at Wimbledon. She lost the second set 4-6. Jelena then poured on the pressure winning the final set 6-2.

Nicole Vaidisova makes it to week two at Wimbledon

Nicole VaidisovaGerman cutie pie, Nicole Vaidisova is in action here against Casey Dellacqua of Australia. Nicole won the match with impressive style, 6-2, 6-4. Casey is ranked # 43 in the world, so this was a great win for Nicole.

Nicole is now into the 2nd week of Wimbledon. Last year she made it through the fourth round to the quarterfinals before being defeated. She is on her way to another impressive run.

Nicole’s opponent will be one of our featured cutie pies, Anna Chakvetadze of Russia. Anna is seeded 8th, and Nicole 18th. This should be a good match.

Anna Chakvetadze advances to 2nd week at Wimbledon

Anna Chakvetadze photoRussian cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze looks determined here in her third round match at Wimbledon. Her determination paid off, as she has advanced to the 2nd week, and the fourth round with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 win over fellow Russian, Evgeniya Rodina. Making the fourth round is the best effort thus far at Wimbledon for Anna. The last two years she has been defeated in the third round.

The 8th seed, Anna will now face another of our featured cutie pies, Nicole Vaidisova of Germany. Nicole is seeded 18th, so it should prove to be a good match.

Ana Ivanovic – stunning upset knocks her out of Wimbledon

Ana Ivanovic photoThe big bad upset bug struck again as Serbian cutie pie and # 1 world ranked Ana Ivanovic was defeated by 133rd ranked Jie Zheng of China. The match was not even close, with Ana losing 1-6, 4-6.

Ana won her last match with lady luck on her side. Today lady luck turned her dark side and Ana had no where to hide. Perhaps the pressure of her new # 1 world ranking plus coming off her first Grand Slam win at Rolland Garros was too much. Whatever the reason, Ana didn’t look like a # 1 world ranked player today. And Jie Zheng played the match of her life.

Maria Sharapova bitten by the upset bug at Wimbledon

Maria Sharapova photoThis picture pretty much tells the story. The upset bug had no regard for the cute tuxedo outfit and bit hard, and taking a big chunk out of Russian cutie pie,Maria Sharapova. Maria lost in straight sets, 2-6, 4-6.

The match pitted two Russians against each other, the world ranked # 2 player and # 154. It should not even have been a match. But Kudryavtseva played the match of her life, and Maria just wasn’t there. Maria’s serve let her down, which seems to affect the rest of her game. She just never got into the match.

Daniela Hantuchova ousted in 2nd round of Wimbledon

Daniela Hantuchova photoTenth seed, Daniela Hantuchova, a cutie pie from Slovakia, is shown her returning a serve in her 2nd round match at Wimbledon. Daniela lost the 3-set match 3-6, 6-4, 1-6 to 18-year-old Alisa Kleybanova of Russia. After losing the 1st set, Daniela pulled out the 2nd set, but seemed to run out of gas for the 3rd.

In Daniela’s defense, Kleybanova, even though she is only 18 years old, is ranked # 42 in the world. So Kleybanova is a good tennis player. Daniela, ranked 12th, should have won, but the matches don’t always turn out the way the ranking would indicate. That’s why they play the matches!

Elena Dementieva makes it to 3rd round at Wimbledon

Elena DementievaElena Dementieva, a Russian cutie pie, has made it to the third round of Wimbledon. She defeated 19-year-old Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in a hard-fought 3-set match.

Elena lost the first set 4-6. She then came back winning the final two sets 6-3, 6-3. Bacsinszky is ranked # 71 in the world, so this was a good win for Elena.

She will now play 39th ranked Gisela Dulko of Argentina. Dulko has played four years at Wimbledon, reaching the 3rd round twice. This will be a tougher challenge for Elena, but I’m thinking she is up to the task. Go Elena!

Caroline Wozniacki into 3rd round at Wimbledon

Caroline Wozniacki photoDanish cutie pie, Caroline Wozniacki, has won her way into the third round at Wimbledon. She easily defeated Aleksandra Wozniak from Canada, 6-1, 6-1.

While their last names are quite similar, they are from totally different countries. It would have been fun listening to the commentators trying to keep Wozniacki and Wozniak straight during the match.

Caroline’s next opponent is the # 3 ranked Jelena Jankovic from Serbia. This will be a very tough match for Caroline. I’m afraid I’m going to have to place my money on Jelena. However, I still say, Go Caroline!
