Nicole Vaidisova survives the 2nd round

Nicole Vaidisova photoGerman cutie pie, Nicole Vaidisova, survived a 3-set match over 98th ranked Samantha Stosur of Australia. Nicole won the first set easily at 6-2. Then things fell apart with Samantha getting a second set bagel, 6-0. Nicole fought back to win the third set 6-4.

After that tough 2nd round match, Nicole will now face 43rd ranked Casey Dellacqua of Australia. This is only Casey’s 2nd appearance at Wimbledon. She lost in the first round last year. Nicole should make it through this round as well.

Anna Chakvetadze wins 2nd round at Wimbledon

Anna Chakvetadze photoAnna Chakvetadze, a Russian cutie pie, made it through the second round at Wimbledon, defeating 84th ranked Edina Gallovits of Romania. It was a relatively easy match after her first round scare. This match went 6-4, 6-2.

In her third round match, Anna will play 19-year-old Evgeniya Rodina of Russia. Evgeniya is ranked 108th in the world. This is her first trip to Wimbledon. Anna should win this match, making it into the fourth round without too much trouble.

Ana Ivanovic survives 2nd round scare

Ana Ivanovic photoSerbian cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic, is seen here in action during her second round match against 97th ranked Nathalie Dechy of France. Ana was not playing up to her normal game, and Nathalie was playing outstanding tennis resulting in a close scare for Ana, the #1 ranked player in the world.

Ana lost the first set in a tie-break 2-7. She faced several match points in the second set, with one of her shots on match point against her just dropping over after hitting the net cord. Ana then went on to win that set in a tie-break 7-3. The final set went into overtime with Ana coming out on top 10-8. They do not play a tie-break in the final set at Wimbledon.

Elena Dementieva into 2nd round at Wimbledon

Elena Dementieva photoRussian cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, has joined those who have made it into the second round at Wimbledon. She defeated 138th ranked Maria Elena Camerin of Italy in a close 3-set match, 6-3, 6-7 (9-7), 6-3.

Elena will now face Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland. Timea is 19 years old, and ranked 71 in the world. She played at Wimbledon for the first time last year, losing her first round match. She should be no match for Elena, a 9-year Wimbledon veteran with a current ranking of 5 in the world. I’m betting on Elena.

Maria Sharapova wins round 1 at Wimbledon

Maria Sharapova photoMaria Sharapova of the Russian Federation celebrates winning the women’s singles round one match against Stephanie Foretz of France. Maria looked totally in charge winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. And she looked quite stunning in her tuxedo-like outfit.

Maria will now face fellow Russian, Alla Kudryavtseva. Kudryavtseva, a 20-year-old, is ranked # 154 in the world. She played at Wimbledon last year for the first time, losing in the first round. I don’t think she will be any match for Maria.

Daniela Hantuchova through to 2nd round at Wimbledon

Daniela Hantuchova photoSlovakian cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova, is shown here celebrating a point during her women’s singles round one match against 57th ranked Sara Errani of Italy. Daniela won the close 2-set match, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Two points difference in the first-set tie-break could have made a big difference, but Daniela triumphed.

Daniela’s next opponent will be Russian, Alisa Kleybanova, who is already ranked # 42 at the age of 18. This is Kleybanova’s first appearance at Wimbledon. Daniela’s seven year experience at Wimbledon should pay off against Kleybanova’s inexperience. I’m betting on Daniela!

Nicole Vaidisova to 2nd round at Wimdledon

Nicole Vaidisova photoNicole Vaidisova, cutie pie from Germany, has advanced to the second round at Wimbledon by defeating Zuzana Ondraskova of the Czech Republic. It was a relatively easy match for Nicole who won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Nicole is showing some muscle in this image. It takes muscle and grit to play in the major tournaments. Nicole will now face 98th ranked Samantha Stosur of Australia. Stosur has played five times at Wimbledon but has never advanced past the second round. So my money is on the muscle of Nicole.

Caroline Wozniacki into 2nd round at Wimbledon

Caroline Wozniacki photoDanish cutie pie, Caroline Wozniacki, has made it through the first round at Wimbledon. She defeated Eva Hrdinova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 7-5.

Caroline will next face #94th ranked Canadian, Aleksandra Wozniak, who has played only once before at Wimbledon. Last year, Wozniak lost in the 1st round. So I’m betting on Caroline to win this match.

Patty Schnyder out after 1st round at Wimbledon

Patty Schnyder photoSwiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, has lost in the first round at Wimbledon. Her opponent was 43rd ranked Casey Dellacqua from Australia. The match went three sets. Patty lost the first set 4-6, but was able to come back to win the second set 6-3. The final set was all Dellacqua, who won 1-6.

Patty and Dellacqua have played only once before, in the second round of this year’s Australian Open. That match also went three sets, with Dellacqua winning 4-6, 7-5, 8-6. It appears Dellacqua has Patty’s number.

Maria Kirilenko loses 1st round at Wimbledon

Maria Kirilenko photoRussian cutie pie, Maria Kirilenko, was defeated in the first round at Wimbledon. She lost to fellow Russian, Vera Dushevina, 3-6, 3-6.

This is a disappointing showing for Maria, especially following her recent championship at Barcelona just last week. In Maria’s defense, Dushevina is ranked # 63 in the world, so she is not a bad player. Maybe next time, Maria!
