Nicole Vaidisova loses in 1st round at 2008 Rogers Cup

Nicole Vaidisova photoGerman cutie pie, Nicole Vaidisova, was the 16th seed in the 2008 WTA Rogers Cup being played in Montreal, Canada July 28-Aug. 3.

Nicole lost her 1st round match against 33rd ranked Ai Sugiyama of Japan. It was a close 3-set match, but Sugiyama was too much for Nicole who ended up losing 3-6, 6-3, 2-6.

Better luck next time, Nicole!

Patty Schnyder into 2nd round at 2008 Rogers Cup

Patty Schnyder photoSwiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, is the 9th seed at the 2008 WTA Rogers Cup being held in Montreal, Canada July 28 – Aug 3.

In the first round, Patty won over 98th ranked Meng Yuan of China by default. Patty won the 1st set in a tie-break, 7-6(8-6). Yuan then retired down 2-3 in the 2nd set.

Patty’s next opponent will be 84th ranked Monica Niculescu of Romaina. I think Patty will do alright against Niculescu and make it into the 3rd round.

Maria Kirilenko wins 1st round at 2008 Rogers Cup

In the first round, Maria defeated 80th ranked Anne Keothavong of London, England 6-1, 7-5.

Maria’s 2nd round opponent will be 122nd ranked Stephanie Dubois from Canada. Maria should do well in her next round.

Ana Ivanovic # 1 seed in 2008 WTA Rogers Cup

Ana hopefully will get back on track. She is still my # 1 cutie pie, and is still ranked # 1 in the world, although Jelena Jankovic is closing the gap. Go Ana!

Caroline Wozniacki wins 1st round at 2008 WTA Tour Nordea Nordic Light Open

She won her first round match 6-3, 6-4 against 134th ranked Angelique Kerber of Germany. Caroline is off to a good start in this tournament.

Caroline’s next opponent is 365th ranked Emma Laine of Finland. Caroline should have no trouble in that match.

Caroline Wozniacki loses in Semifinals at 2008 Banka Koper Slovenia Open

Caroline Wozniacki photoDanish cutie pie, 18-year-old Caroline Wozniacki made it to the Semifinals of the 2008 WTA Banka Koper Slovenia Open being played in Portoroz, Slovenia July 21-27.

She reached the Semifinal match by defeating 65th ranked Vera Dushevina of Russia in an easy straight sets Quarterfinal match, 6-0, 6-1. Caroline, the 3rd seed, then lost her Semifinal match to 8th seed, Sara Errani of Italy in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6.

Making the Semifinals is a good effort. Way to go, Caroline!

Maria Kirilenko loses in Quarterfinals of 2008 Banka Koper Slovenia Open

Maria Kirilenko photoMaria Kirilenko, a cutie pie from Russia, lost her Quarterfinal match in the 2008 WTA Banka Koper Slovenia Open held in Portoroz, Slovenia July 21-27. She lost to 8th seed Sara Errani of Italy 1-6, 5-7.

Maria was the 1st seed in this tournament. I’m sure it is a disappointing loss for her. A player always want to show their seeding was justified. Maybe next time, Maria!

Anna Chakvetadze loses in 3rd round at 2008 East West Bank Classic

Anna was the 3rd seed in this tournament. She had a 1st round BYE, then played 58th ranked Marta Domachowska of Poland. Anna easily won the match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Anna’s 3rd round opponent was 30th ranked Sybille Bammer of Austria. It was a close, tough match with Anna coming out on the losing end. Anna won the first set 4-6. She then fought back to win the 2nd set 7-5. The 3rd set didn’t go as well and she ended up losing 2-6.

Daniela Hantuchova is beaten in 2nd round at 2008 East West Bank Classic

Daniela had a BYE in the 1st round. Her 2nd round opponent was 43rd ranked Olga Govortsova from Minsk, Belarus. Daniela lost the match in straight sets, 2-6, 4-6.

Daniela lost in the 2nd round at Wimbledon, and lost the 1st match of her last two tournaments. She is really going to have to work hard if she is going to get anywhere in the US Open coming up in August. Come on, Daniela!

Patty Schnyder photoSwiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder was beaten in the 2nd round of the 2008 WTA East West Bank Classic being played in Los Angeles, California, USA July 21-27.

Patty was the 7th seed in the tournament. She had a BYE in the 1st round. She then ran into 33-year-old Ai Sugiyama of Japan who is ranked 33rd in the world. Patty lost in straight sets, 4-6, 5-7.

Patty needs to pick up her game for the US Open in August. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for her.
