Caroline Wozniacki is Champion of 2008 Pilot Pen
A Danish cutie pie, Caroline Wozniacki, is the champion of the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen tennis tournament held in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, this past week.
This is the 2nd championship in a row for the 18 year old, who is now ranked 18 in the world. She just won the 2008 Nordea Nordic Light tournament held in Stockholm, Sweden, the first week in August. Now she has added the championship of the Pilot Pen.
On her way to the championship, Caroline defeated Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, Monica Niculescu of Romania, Marion Bartoli of France in the Quarterfinals, and Alize Cornet of France in the Semifinals.
Anna Chakvetadze loses in final of 2008 Pilot Pen
Tennis cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze, of Russia is shown here in her Quarterfinal match of the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen tennis tournament at New Haven, Connecticut, USA. She made a good run, losing out in the Final match against Caroline Wozniacki.
Anna Chakvetadze was the # 1 seed in the tournament. She had a 1st round bye, then defeated 44th ranked Casey Dellacqua of Australia 6-4, 6-4 in the 2nd round to move to the Quarterfinals. In the Quarterfinals she faced Romanian, Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Patty Schnyder loses 2nd round of 2008 Pilot Pen
Swiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, is out of the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen tennis tournament being held in New Haven, Connecticut, USA Aug. 18-24 after a 2nd round loss to 33rd ranked Amelie Mauresmo of France.
Patty Schnyder had won her 1st round match against Jill Craybas of the USA, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). It took a 2nd set tie-break to win the match. Against Mauresmo, the match went into a 3rd set tie-break. This tie-break was not so kind to Patty. She lost the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8).
Daniela Hantuchova loses in Quarterfinals at 2008 Pen Pilot
Daneial Hantuchova, a tennis cutie pie from Slovakia, lost in the Quarterfinals of the WTA Tour Pilot Pen Tennis tournament being played in New Haven, Connecticut, USA Aug 18-24.
Ranked 12th in the world, Daniela Hantuchova was seeded 2nd in this tournament. She had a bye into the 2nd round where she defeated 48th ranked Olga Govortsova of Belarus in a 3-set match, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Daniela then faced 18th ranked Alize Cornet of France in the Quarterfinals. Daniela lost that match in a close 3-setter, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6.
Ana Ivanovic back on top!
Serbian, sexy cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic, is back on top of the charts in the WTA world rankings. As of August 18, she is back to # 1.
Last week, Jelena Jankovic took over the # 1 spot. Jankovic’s reign on top of the world rankings was short lived as Ana Ivanovic takes over the # 1 spot again this week.
So, not only does Ana look good on top, she is back on top! We’ll watch for you in the U.S. Open and hope for more good photos! Ana Ivanovic, you continue to be my favorite tennis cutie pie!
Nicole Vaidisova loses 1st round of 2008 Pilot Pen
German cutie pie, Nicole Vaidisova, looks hot in this photo, but she wasn’t quite hot enough on the tennis court in the opening round of the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen tournament being held in New Haven, Connecticut, USA Aug. 18-24.
Nicole Vaidisova’s opening match was aginst 18th ranked Alize Cornet of France. Nicole lost the match in a somewhat close 2-setter, 3-6, 6-7 (8-10). Nicole battled hard in the tie-break and kept it close right up to the end. Had she won the tie-break, she would have had the momentum and it could have completely changed the outcome of the match.
Patty Schnyder wins 1st round of 2008 Pilot Pen
Swiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, won her first round in the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen being played in New Haven, Connecticut, USA Aug. 18-24.
Patty Schnyder faced 75th ranked Jill Craybas of the USA. It was a closely contested match with Patty winning the 1st set 6-4. The 2nd set went into a tie-break at 6 all, with Patty coming out on top in the tie-break 7-2.
Patty Schnyder’s next opponent is yet to be determined.
Maria Sharapova – sexy power girl
Sexy, Russian cutie pie, Maria Sharapova, has been named to the Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list, according to the September 2008 issue of Tennis magazine. The Celebrity 100 list is a ranking of the most powerful, well-known, and best-paid celebrities in the world.
Maria Sharapova was ranked # 61 on the Celebrity 100 list, along with fellow women tennis stars, Serena Williams at # 69 and Justine Henin at # 81.
Now, consider that Maria Sharapova was also 30th on the annual FHM Magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women in the world. Add together 30th sexiest woman and 61st most powerful, well-known, best-paid celebrity – that sounds like a dangerous combination to me. What do you think?
Maria Kirilenko out in semis at 2008 Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open
Nadia Petrova proved too much for Russian cutie pie, Maria Kirilenko, in the semifinal match of the WTA Tour Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open held in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA on Aug 11-17. Maria lost the match 6-1, 2-6, 1-6 to Petrova, a fellow Russian ranked 21st in the world.
In the 1st round, Maria defeated Su-Wei Hsieh of Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, 6-2, 7-5. She won her 2nd round match against Canadian Stephanie Dubois 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. In the Quarterfinals she beat German Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.
Elena Dementieva wins the Gold!

Russian cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, is going home with the Gold. Elena, ranked 7th in the world, won a back-and-forth match against Dinara Safina to lead the Russians to triple medals in the 2008 Olympic women’s singles. Elena took the Gold, Dinara Safina the Silver, and Vera Zvonareva the Bronze. It is the first tennis podium sweep in 100 years.
Elena said later, “This is for sure the biggest moment in my career, in my life. I will never forget this moment.”
