Daniela Hantuchova seeded 10th at Wimbledon
Cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova, of Slovakia is seeded tenth for the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships scheduled for June 23-July 6.
Daniela is making her eighth attempt at Wimbledon. Her best showing was in 02 when she reached the quarterfinals. The past two years she has lost out in the fourth round.
Daniela’s first round match will be against 21-year-old Sara Errani from Italy. Sara is ranked 57th in the world, but is playing for the first time at Wimbledon. She has played at only three Grand Slam events and has never made it past the second round. She lost out in the first round in the Australian Open and at Roland Garros this year. Daniela should have an easy time making it through this first round.
Anna Chakvetadze seeded 8th at Wimbeldon
Russian cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze, is the eighth seed at the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships.
This will be Anna’s fourth trip to Wimbledon. She has not fared real well there, losing in the first round in 05, and the third round in both 06 and 07. During that time she has climbed from a ranking of 33 to 8 in the world, so she should do better this year.
Anna’s first opponent is 21-year-old 100th ranked Stephanie Dubois from Canada. Stephanie has never gotten past the first round in three appearances in Grand Slams. She has never played at Wimbledon before. So Anna should have an easy match. Let’s see what you can do this year, Anna!
Elena Dementieva seeded # 5 at Wimbledon
Cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, from Russia, is seeded # 5 for the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships. With a world ranking of # 5, she belongs high in the seeding chart.
This is Elena’s tenth appearance at Wimbledon, so she brings a lot of experience to this tournament. Her highest finish was the quarterfinals in 06. She was defeated in the third round last year. I think she will do better than that this year.
Elena’s first round opponent is 26 year-old 138th ranked Maria Elena Camerin of Italy. Maria has never made it past the second round in five tries, so Elena should have an easy first match. Show us what you can do, Elena!
Maria Sharapova seeded # 3 at Wimbledon
Russian cutie pie, Maria Sharapova, is seeded # 3 for the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships which will be played June 23-July 6. Having just dropped from the # 1 world ranking to # 3, she has something to prove to the world in order to start her move back to # 1.
This will be Maria’s 6th appearance at Wimbledon. She has one championship in 04, and reached the semifinals in 05 and 06. Last year she was defeated in the fourth round.
Ana Ivanovic #1 seed at Wimbledon
Serbian cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic, is the # 1 seed at the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships which will be played June 23-July 6. She has just taken over the # 1 world ranking, so deserves to be seeded # 1 here.
Ana’s first opponent will be 102nd ranked 32-year-old Rossana De Los Rios from Paraguay.
This is Ana’s fourth appearance at Wimbledon. She is 10-3, making it to the third round in 05, the fourth round in 06, and the semifinals last year. This could be her year to shine, coming off her first Grand Slam win at Roland Garros. Ana is my pick to win it all.
Maria Sharapova top seed for French Open
The draw had been made – it is official – cutie pie Maria Sharapova is the # 1 seed for the French Open which is set to begin on Sunday. Maria has already won Wimbledon, the US Open and Australian Open, but she has not yet won at Roland Garros. She was quoted at ABS-CBN News Online “It’s quite amazing to be 21 years old and have someone tell you it’s the only Grand Slam you haven’t won.”
