Ana Ivanovic remains # 1 after Wimbledon

Ana Ivanovic photoSerbian cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic, still looks like the world’s best looking athlete, and she retained the official # 1 WTA world ranking this week in spite of her early departure from Wimbledon. Ana had a disappointing 3rd round loss to Zheng Jie of China, 1-6, 4-6.

Ana is just 143 points ahead of 2nd ranked Jelena Jankovic. Jelena lost in the 4th round at Wimbledon, or she would have gained more points on Ana.

I’m looking for Ana to pick up her game in the warm-ups as she gets ready for the U.S. Open Aug. 25 – Sept 1. Come on Ana. Show us what # 1 is really like!

Ana Ivanovic becomes # 1

Ana Ivanovic photoMy favorite cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic has moved into the number one world ranking spot as of June 9. What a week she had – winning the 2008 French Open on Sunday, her first Grand Slam title, then gaining the # 1 position in the world for the first time in her career. Wow!

Ana was ranked 4th at the end of 2007, but has steadily climbed to the top this year. I expect her to stay there a while. She has been playing great, and looking even greater. She’s number one in my book!

Maria Sharapova to be No. 1!

Maria Sharapova photoAccording to On the Baseline, cutie pie Maria Sharapova will take over the No. 1 singles ranking next Monday, as announced by the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour on Thursday. Maria will take over that spot following the sudden announcement of Justine Hennin’s retirement. Jestine requested that her World No. 1 ranking be removed from the Tour Rankings opening the way for the current No. 2, Maria, to move into the World No. 1 spot.

Ana Ivanovic ranked # 2

Ana Ivanovic photoCutie pie, Ana Ivanovic remains the top ranked of our cutie pies in the WTA Tour rankings this week at # 2. She is shown here returning a shot against Emilie Loit of France during day six of the Sony Ericsson Open March 29, 2008. She won that match 6,1, 6-2, but then lost her next match to Lindsay Davenport 4-6, 2-6. Still, she maintains her hold on the # 2 ranking.

There was some other movement in the cutie pie rankings this week. The only move upward was Elena Dementieva who moved from 11th up to 8th after the strongest showing among the cutie pies at the Sony Ericsson Open.
