Defending Champion Zvonareva Seeded No 1 at PTT Pattaya Women’s Open

Vera Zvonareva photoNo. 14 ranked Vera Zvonareva of Russia has received the top seed of the WTA PTT Pattaya Women’s Open which started Feb. 7 in Pattaya City, Thailand. She is the defending champion of the tournament.

Zvonareva slipped out of the Top 10 last week after failing to repeat her run to the semis of the 2009 Australian Open. The good news for the Russian star is that although she squandered a winning lead against Victoria Azarenka in Melbourne, the ankle that caused her so much trouble last season appeared to be holding up.

In her opening round, she will meet Ksenia Pervak

French Open Seeds and Prediction

Dinara Safina photoThe seeding has been done for the French Open Tennis Tournament which begins May 24, 2009 in Paris, France. Coming in at the No. 1 spot is Dinara Safina from Russia. She is followed on the seeding chart by Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Elena Dementieva, and Jelena Jankovic, Vera Zvonareva, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Ana Ivanovic, Victoria Azarenka, and Caroline Wozniacki to fill out the first 10 seeds.

My predictions for the French Open women’s draw are that the following will reach the semifinals: Dinara Safina, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic, and Ana Ivanovic, with Dinara Safina getting all the way through to win her first Grand Slam title.
