Tatiana Golovin not playing Wimbledon
French cutie pie, Tatiana Golovin, will not be playing Wimbledon this year. She is still suffering from back problems following cyst surgery about six months ago.
Here is a translation of what she said at Golovin-Attitude: “It would be very stupid to ruin everything by wanting to play at all costs. My 2008 season is rotten, but I hope that at 21 years old I will be able to get back quickly. I still suffer from my back. I can’t play in those conditions.”
Tatiana missed Roland Garros, and now Wimbledon. Hopefully she will be recovered so she can play the US Open.
Anna Chakvetadze out in semis
.Cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze made a strong run in the 2008 WTA Internazionali d’Italia in Rome last week. However, she was defeated in the semifinals by unseeded Alize Cornet of France in a hard fought 3-set match 6-3, 4-6, 3-6. Cornet then lost to # 4 seed, Jelena Jankovic in the finals.
It was a good run for Anna in this tournament, but I guess sometimes all good things come to an end.
Anna Chakvetadze into semifinals
Cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze is the only one of our featured cutie pies remaining in the 2008 WTA Internazionali d’Italia Tennis Tournament currently being played in Rome, Italy. Anna is seed # 6, and will face unseeded Alize Cornet in a semifinal match today.

Maria Sharapova to be No. 1!
According to On the Baseline, cutie pie Maria Sharapova will take over the No. 1 singles ranking next Monday, as announced by the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour on Thursday. Maria will take over that spot following the sudden announcement of Justine Hennin’s retirement. Jestine requested that her World No. 1 ranking be removed from the Tour Rankings opening the way for the current No. 2, Maria, to move into the World No. 1 spot.
Elena Dementieva loses in final
Cutie pie, Elena Dementieva made it all the way to the finals of the 2008 WTA Qatar Total German Open. She defeated fellow cutie pie and 2nd seed, Ana Ivanovic in her semifinal match 6-2, 7-5.
However, she was beaten in the finals by 13th seed Dinara Safina in a 3-set match. After winning the first set 3-6, she lost the final two sets, 6-2, 6-2.
This strong showing moved her up two spots in the rankings. She is now ranked # 7. Keep up the good work, cutie pie!
Elena Dementieva to semifinals
Cutie pie, Elena Dementieva has reached the semifinals of the 2008 WTA Qatar Total German Open. Seventh seeded Elena defeated 4th seed Jelena Jankovic in a 3-set match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Way to go Elena.
She will next face the winner of the Agnes Szavay – Ana Ivanovic match. As of this writing they had split sets with Agnes winning the first set 6-3, and Ana the second at 6-4. If Ana wins the match, that would put two cutie pies against each other in the semifinals.
The other semifinal match has 13th seed Dinara Safina, who defeated Serena Williams, against unseeded Victoria Azarenka.
Elena Dementieva into Semifinals
Cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, is the only one of our featured cutie pies still in the 2008 WTA Tour Family Circle Cup currently being played in Charleston, SC. As the 4th seed, she defeated another cutie pie, 7th seed Patty Schnyder in a 2-set Quarterfinal match, 6-4, 6-4.
That sets up a Semifinal match with 9th seed Vera Zvonareva. Go cutie pie. We’re pulling for you!
Elena is pictured here after winning the final March 1, 2008 in the WTA Dubai Open.
Patty Schnyder out of tourney
Cutie pie, Patty Schnyder is out of the 2008 WTA Tour Family Circle Cup going on in Charleston, SC. She lost a 2-set match, 4-6, 4-6, to another cutie pie, Elena Dementieva in the Quarterfinals.
Patty was seeded 7th, and Elena was seeded 4th in this tournament. So I suppose the match went about the way it should have. Unfortunately that leaves only one of our featured cutie pies, Elena, left in the tournament. Cutie pie, Maria Sharapova also lost her Quarterfinal match.
Elena Dementieva retires from match with injury
Cutie pie Elena Dementieva was the only one of our cutie pies remaining in the Sony Ericsson Open Tournament going into the 4th round. But that was the end for all our cutie pies.
Elena played Jelena Jankovic in her quarterfinal match. Jankovic was leading 6-1 3-1 in the contest when Elena, who had a back injury treated on court earlier in the match, decided she could not carry on. She retired from the match before making her back problems worse.
Hopefully her injury will not keep her out of future tournaments.
Maria Sharapova advances
Cutie pie, Maria Sharpova, continued her undefeated season with a 3-set win over Alona Bondarenko, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Then she played cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova, who defeated Sania Mirza, 6-1, 7-6(4). Maria won that match 7-6(2), 6-1. In this tournament, I would like to see Maria come out on top, which, by the way, she almost did in this picture!
My favorite cutie pie and top seed, Ana Ivanovic, has also advanced, defeating Francesca Schiavone in a hard fought 3 setter, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. She now faces 12th seed Vera Zvonareva.
