Nicole Vaidisova out of Pacific Life Open

Nicole Vaidisova photoSeventh seed, Nicole Vaidisova is the 2nd of our featured cutie pies to get beat out of the Pacific Life Open tournament going on in Indian Wells, CA. She is pictured here returning a shot against Casey Dellacqua of Australia on Saturday. Nicole lost the 3-set match 1-6, 6-3, 4-6. Maria Kirilenko got beat out in the 2nd round by another cutie pie, Caroline Wozniacki.

The other cutie pies are all still advancing. Number 1 seed, Ana Ivanovic advanced to the 3rd round with a 3-set win 6-1, -7, 6-0 over Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru.

Patty Schnyder loses in final

Patty Schnyder photoWell, unfortunately cutie pie Patty Schnyder’s run came to an end at the Bangalore finals. She lost to Serena Williams 5-7, 3-6 on Sunday.

Williams seemed to dominate the final with powerful serves and groundstrokes. Patty committed several unforced errors in trying to hit deep and keep Williams at the baseline.

Patty had a good tournament, even though she lost this final match. Runner-up is better than 26 of the other players did in this tournament. Way to go, cutie pie.

Patty Schnyder to finals!

Patty Schnyder photoCutie pie, Patty Schnyder advanced to the finals of the Bangalore Open with a 2-set victory on Saturday over Zi Yan, 6-3, 6-4. Patty broke serve twice in both sets, while losing her own serve once in the 2nd set, for a relatively easy win.

Zi Yan had been referred to as a giant-killer, having knocked off top seed Jelena Jankovic and 8th seed cutie pie Maria Kirilenko to reach the semi-finals in this tournament. So Patty apparently is the killer of the giant-killer, and my latest prediction that Patty would reach the finals came true.

Patty Schnyder to semi-finals

Patty Schnyder photoCutie pie Patty Schnyder has made it through to the semi-finals in the Bangalore Open. My prediction about her last match came true.

Fourth seed, Patty, defeated a big-serving Akgul Amanmuradova in a close, tough 3-set match, 4-6 6-4 7-6.

Her semi-final match will be against the winner of the quarterfinal match between #1 seed, Jelena Jankovic and Zi Yan. Being toughened up from two straight 3-set matches, I think Patty can pull off another win to reach the finals. I’m pulling for you, cutie pie!

Patty Schnyder advances

Patty Schnyder photoCutie pie Patty Schnyder has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bangalore Open.

Patty is pictured here playing against Aiko Nakamura on Mar. 5. She dropped the 1st set in a tie-break, then went on to win the match in 3 sets, 6-7,6-4,6-2. That 3-setter should toughen her up for her next matches in the tournament.

Patty will now play unseeded Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan, who defeated 5th seed Agnes Szavay. Amanmuradova has a world ranking of 83. I’m predicting a cutie pie Patty win! Go cutie pie!

Maria Kirilenko – out in 1st round

Maria Kirilenko photoEight seeded Russian cutie pie Maria Kirilenko was knocked out of the Bangalore Open in the first round. Unseeded Chinese player, Zi Yan, came from a set behind to register the first major upset of the tournament.

It was a tough 3-setter. Kirilenko won the first set 3-6. She then squandered three match points in the second set. In the opening game of the third set, she failed to convert on four break points. After that Yan took control.

So our cutie pie had her chances. She just couldn’t make it happen. Don’t give up, cutie pie. There is another tournament just around the corner.

Elena Dementieva photoOnly one of our cutie pies remains in the 2008 WTA Dubai Tennis Championships. Elena Dementieva reached the semifinals by defeating cutie pie Ana Ivanovic 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Elena next plays Francesca Schiavone who beat #1 ranked Justine Henin in the quarterfinals.

Cutie pie Anna Chakvetadze had to withdraw with a thigh injury after losing the 1st set 6-1 while playing Jelena Jankovic in the quarterfinals.

Elena is pictured here from a photoshoot. It looks like she wants someone to play with her in the sand!
