Ivanovic upset by Cetkovska in round three

Ana IvanovicNo. 18 seed, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, was eliminated from Wimbledon in round three by No. 81, Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic, by a surprising score of 6-2, 7-6(0).

The only other time these two have met, Ivanovic won easily in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at the French Open in 2008. That makes this an even more disappointing loss for the struggling Ivanovic. Just when it seems her game might be coming back together, she lets it slip away again.

Clijsters stuns Ivanovic with epic comeback

Kim Clijsters Kim Clijsters pulled out an amazing comeback in round 4 of the 2011 WTA Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on March 29, stunning Ana Ivanovic who looked to have the match in the bag.

Leading 5-1, 40-0 in the decisive third set against No. 2 seed, Clijsters, No. 19 seed Ivanovic was one point away from the biggest win of her recent comeback. But then the wheels came off. Those three match points were wiped away. Two more followed. By the time it was over, Clijsters had prevailed 7-5 in the third-set tiebreaker and completed the most epic comeback on the WTA this year. And Ivanovic had a broken racquet.

Ivanovic upset by Makarova at Australian Open

Ana IvanovicNo. 19 seed, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, took a 1st round exit from the Australian Open, blaming an injury for the loss.

Ana’s departure came at the hands of No. 49 ranked Ekaterina Makarova of Russia who won the thriller 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

While it was a close match, it was very disappointing for Ana, who was hoping to make a good run at this Grand Slam with her new coach, Antonio Van Grichen (who replaced Heinz Günthardt) at her side. But it wasn’t to be, and Ana said an abdominal strain suffered during this month’s Hopman Cup in Perth, where she withdrew from the final, had hampered her preparation.

Ivanovic wins WTA Bali Open for 2nd title in a row

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic of Serbia was the victor in the final of the 2010 Tournament of Champions at Bali, Indonesia, defeating Russian, Alisa Kleybanova 6-2, 7-6(5).

The 23-year-old Ana is shown here dressed in a traditional Balinese outfit displaying the hardware she won. The outfit looks quite nice on this Serbian beauty, I might add.

The victory was especially sweet for Ana after she had struggled with her form earlier in the season. Throughout the season, she had managed to win back-to-back matches only twice up until August. Then she began to find her form again, the form that took her to No. 1 in the world following her French Open title in 2008, a ranking which she held for 12 weeks.
