Anna Chakvetadze is out of 2008 Rogers Cup
Cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze, from Russia was defeated in the 2nd round of the 2008 WTA Rogers Cup being played in Montreal, Canada July 28-Aug. 3.
Ninth ranked, Anna had a BYE in the 1st round. She then won her 2nd round match 6-2, 7-5 against 79th ranked Jill Craybas of the USA. Then she lost a hard fought 3-set match 6-4, 5-7, 6-7(4-7) to 15th ranked Marian Bartoli of France.
It is disappointing losing a close match like that, knowing that just a couple of points could have changed the outcome. But this should make her match-tough for her next tournament.
Anna Chakvetadze loses in 3rd round at 2008 East West Bank Classic
Cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze of Russia was beaten in the 3rd round of the 2008 WTA East West Bank Classic being played in Los Angeles, California, USA July 21-27.
Anna was the 3rd seed in this tournament. She had a 1st round BYE, then played 58th ranked Marta Domachowska of Poland. Anna easily won the match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Anna’s 3rd round opponent was 30th ranked Sybille Bammer of Austria. It was a close, tough match with Anna coming out on the losing end. Anna won the first set 4-6. She then fought back to win the 2nd set 7-5. The 3rd set didn’t go as well and she ended up losing 2-6.
Anna Chakvetadze loses in Quarterfinals of 2008 Bank of the West Classic
One of our Russian cutie pies, Anna Chakvetadze, suffered a loss in the Quarterfinals of the 2008 WTA Tour Bank of the West Classic Tennis Tournament in Stanford, California, USA.
Anna, the 2nd seed, lost to 6th seed Marion Bartoli of France in straight sets, 3-6, 4-6.
Anna had a 1st round BYE, won her 2nd round match against Shahar Peer, which set up the 3rd round match against Bartoli in the Quarterfinals. So she only played two matches in this tournament. This is a disappointing loss for Anna, and not much of a warm up for the U.S. Open in August. Hopefully she can pick up her game by then.
Anna Chakvetadze to Quarterfinals of 2008 Bank of the West Classic
Russian cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze is the 2nd seed in the 2008 WTA Tour Bank of the West Classic being held in Stanford, California, USA July 14-20.
After a 1st round BYE, she defeated 25th ranked Shahar Peer of Israel in the 2nd round, 6-3, 6-4. That was a good win for Anna.
Anna now faces the 25th ranked Marion Bartoli of France in the Quarterfinals. Good luck Anna!
Anna Chakvetadze loses in 4th round at Wimbledon
Russian cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze, was defeated in the fourth round at Wimbledon. She was the 8th seed, and was defeated by the 18th seed, cutie pie Nicole Vaidisova of Germany.
It was a close, hard fought match. Anna won the first set 6-4. The second set went to a tie-break. That’s when Anna began to slip. She didn’t win a point in the tie-break. She then lost the third set, 3-6.
It was a good tournament for Anna. This is the first time she has reached the 4th round at Wimbledon. That is progress. Maybe next year, she can do even better.
Anna Chakvetadze advances to 2nd week at Wimbledon
Russian cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze looks determined here in her third round match at Wimbledon. Her determination paid off, as she has advanced to the 2nd week, and the fourth round with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 win over fellow Russian, Evgeniya Rodina. Making the fourth round is the best effort thus far at Wimbledon for Anna. The last two years she has been defeated in the third round.
The 8th seed, Anna will now face another of our featured cutie pies, Nicole Vaidisova of Germany. Nicole is seeded 18th, so it should prove to be a good match.
Anna Chakvetadze wins 2nd round at Wimbledon
Anna Chakvetadze, a Russian cutie pie, made it through the second round at Wimbledon, defeating 84th ranked Edina Gallovits of Romania. It was a relatively easy match after her first round scare. This match went 6-4, 6-2.
In her third round match, Anna will play 19-year-old Evgeniya Rodina of Russia. Evgeniya is ranked 108th in the world. This is her first trip to Wimbledon. Anna should win this match, making it into the fourth round without too much trouble.
Anna Chakvetadze survives scare in 1st round at Wimbledon
Cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze survived a scare in her 1st round match against Canadian Stephanie Dubois. Anna won the 1st set easily at 6-2, then lost the 2nd set just as easily 1-6. The 3rd set went 8-6 in Anna’s favor. They do not play a tie-beak in the final set at Wimbledon.
After that scare, hopefully Anna will have her concentration at 100% for her next match against 23-year-old Edina Gallovits of Romania. Edina is ranked 72nd in the world. The matches won’t get any easier, so Anna needs to step up her game.
Anna Chakvetadze seeded 8th at Wimbeldon
Russian cutie pie, Anna Chakvetadze, is the eighth seed at the 2008 All England Lawn Tennis Championships.
This will be Anna’s fourth trip to Wimbledon. She has not fared real well there, losing in the first round in 05, and the third round in both 06 and 07. During that time she has climbed from a ranking of 33 to 8 in the world, so she should do better this year.
Anna’s first opponent is 21-year-old 100th ranked Stephanie Dubois from Canada. Stephanie has never gotten past the first round in three appearances in Grand Slams. She has never played at Wimbledon before. So Anna should have an easy match. Let’s see what you can do this year, Anna!
Anna Chakvetadze bites the dust
Another of our featured cutie pies, Anna Chakvetadze has bitten the dust. In this case, it is the red clay of the French Open. Anna lost in the 2nd round to unseeded and 49th ranked Estonian, Kaia Kanepi.
Anna lost a close straight sets match, 4-6, 6-7 (7-2). She didn’t do well in the 2nd set tie-break. Had she been able to pull that out, the match may well have turned out much differently. She was gaining some momentum after the 1st set. Oh well, I guess there’s Wimbledon coming up soon!
