No. 1 seed, Caroline Wozniacki, served up a double bagel to Kai-Lung Chang in U.S. Open action today.
Wozniacki has lost only two games through the first two rounds. So far she has proven she deserves the No. 1 seeding.
Wozniacki is considered by many to be the favorite in the women’s draw this year, having lost in the final in last year’s U.S. Open. And the world No. 2 certainly showed few holes in her game against Chang, clinching a one-sided 6-0 6-0 victory.
The No. 1 seed, Caroline Wozniacki, cruised to an easy win over Chelsey Gullickson, 6-1, 6-1 in her first round match at the 2010 U.S. Open Tuesday.
Wozniacki of Denmark is currently ranked No. 2, but was given the No. 1 seeding when World No. 1, Serena Williams, withdrew because an ongoing foot injury.
Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark is seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open, followed by No. 2 Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
It is the first time Wozniacki was seeded No. 1 at a Grand Slam tournament, a spot which she filled in after world No. 1 Serena Williams of the U.S.A. pulled out of the tournament, saying she still is recovering from surgery to repair cuts on her right foot.
Wozniacki, ranked No. 2 behind Williams by the WTA, was the runner-up at Flushing Meadows last year and is the first woman since 2003 to be seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open without already having won a major championship.
Russian third seed, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, defeated compatriot Elena Vesnina 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday to capture the WTA Istanbul Cup title in Istanbul, Turkey.
At 19-years-old, Pavlyuchenkova is ranked No. 24, the highest-ranked teenager in the world. It was her second career championship after Monterrey earlier this season.
Pavlyuchenkova did it the hard way, taking the victory after three hours and 10 minutes on the court in the final match, rallying from 0-4 in the second set and 1-3 in the third.
Vesnina, who celebrated her 24th birthday on Sunday, came into Istanbul on a seven-match losing streak, having not won a match on the Tour since Charleston in April.
No. 3 seed, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, was sent packing today after being pounded by No. 62 ranked Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in the 4th round of Wimbledon 2010.
The pounding took only 46 minutes. Who is this Petra Kvitova who can knock off a high seed without hardly breaking a sweat? In her post match press conference, the questions were not about how she thought she played, but the first question to her was: “We don’t know who you are very well. Can you tell us a little bit about you?” Her answer didn’t really clear things up very much. “I was born in Bilovec, Fulnek is my residence and I’m practising in Prostejov.”

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark was among the early upsets at the 2010 WTA AEGON International being played June 14-20 in Eastbourne, England. The No. 1 seed was defeated in the 1st round by Aravane Rezai of France 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The Wimbledon warmup claimed other top seeds in the 1st round, including No. 2 seed and 2010 French Open champion, Francesca Schiavone of Italy who was eliminated by Sorana Cirstea of Romania 7-5, 6-3.
It appears the warmup is getting the unseeded players more warmed up than the top seeds. It could be an interesting Wimbledon. Warm up your TV sets by Monday, because here we go!

The No. 5 seed, Elena Dementieva of Russia, survived a bit of a scare against No. 19 seeded countrywoman, Nadia Petrova. Final score: 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Both players were slowed by leg injuries which were not helped by cold and rainy conditions. Petrova was hampered by a strained left thigh, which she had rewrapped midway through the first set. Dementieva also received treatment during the 17-minute break, when a trainer taped her right thigh.
Elena hit 25 winners with 24 unforced errors; Nadia had 27 winners, with 27 errors. Elena scored on 6 of 10 break points she held against Nadia; Nadia converted only 3 of 11 break points she held against Elena.

No. 17 seed, Francesca Schiavone of Italy, proved once again that experience can overcome youth as she took out No. 3 seed, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2, 6-3 in the Quarterfinals of the French Open in Paris.
It was a dominating performance by the 29 year-old Francesca, the oldest woman left in the field, as 19 year-old Caroline, the youngest quarterfinalist, struggled to find her forehand. Both players had trouble holding serve, but Francesca’s nerves held out better as she kept Caroline running corner to corner. Francesca’s offense eventually won out over Caroline’s defense.
No. 3 seed, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, had an easy victory over unseeded, No. 56 ranked Tathiana Garbin of Italy. Caroline took the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Caroline had little trouble against Tathiana, relying on her forehand to break five times in a one-sided contest. She wrapped up the win after just 68 minutes when Garbin fired a forehand long.
Caroline will now face No. 31 seed, Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania.
