Dulko eliminates Stosur in round three
Argentina’s Gisela Dulko eliminated Australia’s
Samantha Stosur in the 3rd round of the 2011 French Open in 3-sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The 26-year-old Dulko, ranked No. 51, broke Stosur’s serve in the first and third games of the match, slashing inside-out backhands for winners and a forehand so deep it forced the Australian to hit a backhand long.
Stosur, seeded No. 8 and a finalist in last year’s French, trailed 0-4 before she recovered her composure and confidence. It was too late to retrieve the first set, but the agile Australian ran out the second set, 6-1, in just 31 minutes.
Kim Clijsters – 2010 WTA Player of the Year
Kim Clijsters of Belgium was voted Player of the Year for the 2nd time in her career. She first earned that honor in 2005.
The 27-year-old from Belgium won five titles in 2010, including her second U.S. Open crown in a row. She won at Brisbane, Miami, Cincinnati, and the season-ending WTA Championships in Doha, as well as taking her third title at Flushing Meadows.
Just one year after making a comeback following a break to rest injuries and start a family, Clijsters was voted the top honor in a balloting of players as well as the Player Service award given to the woman who did the most to support her fellow players through the WTA players’ council or other initiatives.
No. 10 seed, Azarenka, collapses during U.S. Open match
Victoria Azarenka collapsed on Wednesday during her 2nd round match at the 2010 U.S. Open.
Azarenka collapsed and fell to the ground while chasing down a ball on the baseline and had to be taken off the court in a wheelchair, withdrawing from the sweltering U.S. Open with what tournament officials said were “headache-like” symptoms.
The 10th-seed from Belarus was trailing Gisela Dulko 5-1, 31 minutes into her match on another steamy day at Flushing Meadows, when she crumpled to the ground. She was taken to the hospital for tests.
Dulko upsets No. 10 seed Azarenka at French Open
Unseeded, No. 45 ranked Gisela Dulko from Argentina embarrassed No. 10 seed, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, 6-1, 6-2, in the 1st round of the French Open being played in Paris, France.
The commentators thought Victoria’s play was so bad, they wondered why she even showed up on the court. Gisela had 14 winners and 18 unforced errors, while Victoria hit 14 winners but with 25 unforced errors. Gisela converted 5 of 11 break points against Victoria; Victoria scored on only 1 of 4 break points she held against Gisela.
Henin And Ivanovic Join Early Round Losers At Indian Wells

Favorites Justine Henin of Belgium and Ana Ivanovic of Serbia both became victims of the 2nd round exit-disease, leaving fans to wonder why? What happened? How could that be?
Ivanovic lost to 19 year-old Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, while Henin fell victim to Gisela Dulko of Argentina in a see-saw battle 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
Dulko Sends Ivanovic Off The Court In Tears
Popular Serbian tennis star, Ana Ivanovic , left the court in tears today at the 2010 Australian Open after losing a heart breaker in three sets to Argentinian Gisela Dulko 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-4.
Ivanovic was pitted against No. 36 ranked Dulko in a 2nd round match. It was an early exit for the 20th seed, Ivanovic, who continues to struggle with her serve, having to constantly re-toss the ball and serving far too many double-faults. Ivanovic won the French Open in May 2008 and was world No. 1 a month later. However, she had an up-and-down year in 2009 while struggling with some injuries.
