Happy Birthday Patty Schnyder

Patty Schnyder photo
Happy birthday to Swiss tennis cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, who was born Dec. 14, 1978 in Basel, Switzerland. That means she is turning the big 30!

Schnyder ended the year ranked # 14 in singles, and 50 in doubles. She had one Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title and one doubles title in 2008. That brings her career total to eleven singles and five doubles titles, with earnings at about $7.5 million. If no one is throwing her a 30th birthday party, she should be able to afford to go out and celebrate with her family.

Schnyder taken out by Bondarenko

Patty Schnyder photoTennis cutie pie, Patty Schnyder was eliminated in the 2nd round from the WTA Generali Ladies Linz tournament played Oct. 20-26 in Linz, Austria. She lost to Alona Bondarenko in an up-and-down match 2-6, 6-2, 1-6.

Patty Schnyder, ranked No. 11, had a bye in the 1st round. However, the No. 33 ranked Bondarenko from the Ukraine was too tough for her in the 2nd round.

After winning the WTA Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic four tournaments ago, Schnyder has been able to win only one match in the last three tournaments. That seems to be a plague affecting a lot of the top players toward the end of the season – inconsistency. Too bad there’s not a vaccination for the “inconsistency” disease.

Patty Schnyder out in Quarterfinals

Patty Schnyder photoTennis cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, from Switzerland has been beaten out of the U.S. Open in the Quarterfinals. Her opponent, another featured cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, from Russia, easily won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

This was a much better showing for Patty Schnyder, than at the last Grand Slam at Wimbledon where she was beaten out in the 1st round. Schnyder had not made the Quarterfinals at the U.S. Open since 1998. However, the 29-year old 15th ranked Schnyder was just no match for 6th ranked 26 year-old Dementieva.

It was a good run, Patty. Keep on trying!
