Patty Schnyder is into the Quarterfinals
Swiss tennis cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, has qualified for the Quarterfinals of the 2008 U.S. Open tennis tournament. Her latest conquest is Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia in a tough 3-setter 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Patty Schnyder is ranked 15th in the world and Srebotnik is # 28. That made a great match up and a close contest. Patty’s last two matches have been tough 3-setters, but she has been up to the task.
Patty’s next opponent is another featured cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, of Russia. Dementieva is ranked # 5 in the world and has yet to drop a set through four rounds. This should be a really tough match for both players.
Patty Schnyder sneaks into 2nd week
Swiss tennis cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, has made it into the 2nd week of the 2008 U.S. Open by sneaking past 89th ranked Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Patty Schnyder broke her “magic 3” formula (every set in the first two matches had a “3″ in it) and had a close 1st set. Patty won the tie-break, and went on to win in straight sets.
Patty’s 4th round opponent will be 28th ranked Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia. Srebotnik upset 3rd seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in round 2, so it could be a tough match.
Patty Schnyder is into 3rd round with magic 3 at 2008 U.S. Open
Patty Schnyder, tennis cutie pie from Switzerland, has won her way with a magic 3 into the 3rd round of the 2008 U.S. Open. By magic 3, I mean every set score through two matches has a three. Patty Schnyder won her first match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and her second match 6-3, 6-3.
The first magic 3 victim was 18-year old 166th ranked Anastasia Pivovarova of Russia. The 2nd magic 3 casualty was
another Anastasia from Russia, 17-year-old Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
I think Patty has run out of Anastasias to play, but perhaps she can use the magic 3 some more. Go Patty!
Patty Schnyder loses 2nd round of 2008 Pilot Pen
Swiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, is out of the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen tennis tournament being held in New Haven, Connecticut, USA Aug. 18-24 after a 2nd round loss to 33rd ranked Amelie Mauresmo of France.
Patty Schnyder had won her 1st round match against Jill Craybas of the USA, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). It took a 2nd set tie-break to win the match. Against Mauresmo, the match went into a 3rd set tie-break. This tie-break was not so kind to Patty. She lost the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8).
Patty Schnyder wins 1st round of 2008 Pilot Pen
Swiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, won her first round in the 2008 WTA Tour Pilot Pen being played in New Haven, Connecticut, USA Aug. 18-24.
Patty Schnyder faced 75th ranked Jill Craybas of the USA. It was a closely contested match with Patty winning the 1st set 6-4. The 2nd set went into a tie-break at 6 all, with Patty coming out on top in the tie-break 7-2.
Patty Schnyder’s next opponent is yet to be determined.
Patty Schnyder is out of 2008 Olympics
Patty Schnyder, a cutie pie from Switzerland, serves here against Sybille Bammer of Austria in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Patty was seeded 13th, which must have been an unlucky number, as she was defeated in the 2nd round.
In the opening round, 15th ranked Patty defeated 74th ranked Jill Craybas of the USA, 6-3, 6-2. She then lost in straight sets to 32nd ranked Sybille Bammer of Austria 4-6, 4-6.
Too bad Patty. We’ll watch for you in the U.S. Open!
Patty Schnyder loses in 3rd round of 2008 Rogers Cup
Patty Schnyder, cutie pie from Switzerland, lost in the 3rd roung of the 2008 WTA Roger Cup being played in Montreal, Canada July 28-Aug 3.
Following her 1st round win, she played 84th ranked Monica Niculescu of Romania. Patty won that match 6-1, 7-5.
Patty then ran up against 8th ranked Russian, Dinara Safina, losing to her 2-6, 2-6. Safina has been playing well lately She was just too tough for Patty.
Patty Schnyder into 2nd round at 2008 Rogers Cup
Swiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder, is the 9th seed at the 2008 WTA Rogers Cup being held in Montreal, Canada July 28 – Aug 3.
In the first round, Patty won over 98th ranked Meng Yuan of China by default. Patty won the 1st set in a tie-break, 7-6(8-6). Yuan then retired down 2-3 in the 2nd set.
Patty’s next opponent will be 84th ranked Monica Niculescu of Romaina. I think Patty will do alright against Niculescu and make it into the 3rd round.
Patty Schnyder out in 2nd round at 2008 East West Bank Classic
Swiss cutie pie, Patty Schnyder was beaten in the 2nd round of the 2008 WTA East West Bank Classic being played in Los Angeles, California, USA July 21-27.
Patty was the 7th seed in the tournament. She had a BYE in the 1st round. She then ran into 33-year-old Ai Sugiyama of Japan who is ranked 33rd in the world. Patty lost in straight sets, 4-6, 5-7.
Patty needs to pick up her game for the US Open in August. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for her.
Patty Schnyder loses in Quarterfinals at 2008 Bank of the West Classic
Our cutie pie from Switzerland, 13th ranked Patty Schnyder, lost to Serena Williams of the USA in the Quarterfinals of the 2008 WTA Tour Bank of the West Classic at Stanford, California, USA being played Jul 14-20.
It was a straight set win for the # 1 seed, Serena Williams, 6-3, 6-1. Serena proved to be too tough for Patty, who was the 5th seed in the tournament. But this should help get Patty ready for the U.S. Open in August. Good luck Patty!
