Ok info…most players 4.5+ and above have little trouble w the forehand half-volley; however, the backhand half-volley is far more difficult and would have been a much more informative and important topic to address…thx
i appreciate this video is primariy about the technique, but effective drills should involve, or at least progress to adding in the right movement. if you wait behind the service line expecting a half volley that's just what you're going to get, then not moving through the shot you'll get stuck hitting a low volley next even if you execute a decent shot. you need to move onto the ball as though you are expecting a low volley and check your forward movement to take it on the bounce then make sure you resume moving forward to close the net (this requires accurate feeding of course) but just practice a low volley if the feed is a bit deep. not being sure whether you'll take it in the air or on the bounce means you need to get low which is essential for the low volley but realistically just as important for a good half volley
